On April 4th, Letter of Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and National Development and Reform Commission Supporting Cities to Develop into Innovation-Oriented Cities was released on the official website of Ministry of Science and Technology. The document tells explicit support to 17 cities including Foshan to construct innovation-oriented city.

In order to form regional and industrial core competitiveness, Foshan started the construction of innovation-oriented city at the end of 2012. Since 2016, Foshan further aimed at building national manufacturing innovation center facing the globe, and made great achievement in taking the innovative development road of “world technology+ Foshan intelligent manufacturing+ global market”. In 2017, the total number of Foshan high-tech enterprises reaches 2,561 with an increase of 85%; the applied patents for inventions in 2017 rises 50.72% and the granted patents for inventions rises 46.39%.

In the future, Foshan will lead innovative development with the plan and construction of “First Ring Innovative Circle”, gathering and integrating elements such as talents, technology, capital, information, etc. Push high-tech enterprises to set up standards and improve quality, improve the rate of R&D institutions of industrial enterprises above the scale, introduce high-class innovative talents, build Foshan Advanced Manufacturing Science and Technology Guangdong Lab, enhance the ability of Foshan large technology platform carrying high-end innovative resources, and construct regional innovative ecological system of Foshan.
