CCTV focuses on Foshan’s “Burning Fanta” during the Mid-Autumn Festival

September 24 is the annual Mid-Autumn Festival, and the traditional event “Burning Fanta” has  been staged in Songtang Village in Nanhai Xiqiao.

In the evening of September 24, CCTV4 has recorded a large live documentary program of 2018 Legendary Chinese Festival·Mid-Autumn Festival and simultaneously made a live broadcast of Foshan’s celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival on CCTV 1 and CCTV 4. It took about ten minutes to show the Lingnan culture to global audience.

It’s reported that the live broadcast has covered nearly 1.6 billion Chinese among 155 countries and regions. And one of the live broadcast spots of Nanhai’s “Burning Fanta” has got the highest audience rating.

  

"Burning Fanta" is a preserved event during the Mid-Autumn Festival in villages of Foshan and Zhaoqing. It is particularly popular in Nanhai Danzao Xiangang Village, Xiqiao Songtang Village, Luocun Shangbai Village, Zhaoqing Lao Liang and etc.

   

The “Fanta” is made of 4000 bricks, with an inner diameter of 1.8 meters, a perimeter of 2 meters and a height of 6 meters. Villagers from Nanhai Songtang Village said this year they have prepared 2500 kilograms of straw and 50 bags of about 750 kilograms of wood bran. Each year, the “Fanta” is one floor higher, which means promoting step by step.

The traditional “Burning Fanta” begins at eight oclock in the evening of the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. There are moon cakes and fruits placed next to the “Fanta” and there are incenses put at the bottom of it. The lions set off from Songtang Kongsheng Temple, passed Qingyun road, Hanlin door, and soon came to the “Fanta” with the sound of firecrackers. (Photo by Min Xin)
