Chencun 8 million butterfly orchids bloom

Few residents know about the “mysterious” Foshan Orchid Tech Park, which is actually well-known in the industry: there are more than 100 producers in the 46-hectare park, which is a Foshan orchid park with the highest production volume and the most advanced technology, and the biggest butterfly orchids plantation base in the Pearl River Delta Area.

The inexpensive and high-quality butterfly orchids have a popular sales not only in the Pearl River Delta Area, but also in Southeast Asia, Korea, Japan and other countries and regions. So far, most of the butterfly orchids have been booked and ready to be shipped. Owing to the cold wave, the price this year will rise about 10%.

The mini butterfly orchid this year is very popular. It has a longer flowering period and more branches while its color and shape are the same as ordinary butterfly orchids. The smallest flower is as tiny as a finger nail with a stem of about 10 cm. A pot of mini butterfly orchid costs only 10-20 yuan.

Because of the long stem and heavy flower, butterfly orchids need to be clamped by steel wires in order to keep poses.

Butterfly orchid has a relatively long growing period, taking 12 to 18 months to grow from a seedling to a flower. Orchids in different growing periods have different needs, so it is important to strictly control every precise procedure.

Soilless orchids exported to North America

Foshan is an important flower production base in China and butterfly orchid is one of the advantaged species of flower plantation in Foshan. In Chencun, the tissue culture seedlings of butterfly orchid every year exceed 100 million, and the finished seedlings production reach 47 million, making it one of the largest butterfly orchid export base in China.

In July, 2017, Chinese butterfly orchids entered into American market with medium for the first time. 10,000 butterfly orchids with medium from Foshan Chencun exported to America, which caused a huge sensation.

The medium of the exported orchids is imported seaweed instead of soil! In order to improve quality, producers especially imported good medium from South America. With high temperature sterilization and special flower fertilizers, it reached the standard of exporting to America.
