May 10th is the fifth Chinese Brand Day. On May 9th, 2021 China Brand Evaluation Press Conference and China Brand Building Summit Forum was held in Shanghai. A list of top 100 cities in the comprehensive brand influence index of Chinas prefecture level cities was announced at the conference, in which Foshan ranked 2nd.

The China Brand Building Summit Forum is currently a high-end dialogue platform with extensive influence, diffusion power and driving force. One of the important contents of the conference is to release the list, which is made based on international and national standards as well as 2-year data analysis of 293 prefecture-level cities across the country. After calculating the comprehensive influence index of all cities, excluding cities above provincial capitals, it came out that Suzhou, Foshan, and Wenzhou ranked top three.

Reportedly, those cities were evaluated in accordance with following aspects:
1) 5 development concepts of “innovation, coordination, green, openness and shared development”;
2) 5 A-level indicators of “quality, service, innovation, tangible assets, and intangible assets”;
3) 37 B-level indicators including “city comprehensive credit index, communication index, number of national brands, air quality excellent rate, green coverage rate, proportion of migrant population, employment rate, per capita disposable income and average life expectancy”.

Furthermore, the evaluation reduced weight on urban size and GDP while emphasized more on green development and mutual share. Under these standards, the evaluation aims to guide cities to implement new development concepts and build "people-oriented" cities in China.

“A city brand is an objective display of its ecological, cultural, economic, and government images,” a representative from Foshan Municipal Market Supervision Bureau added, “the evaluation is conducive to improving cities’ competitiveness and peoples wellbeing. The announcement has recognized Foshans efforts in building a better city brand.”
