After weeks of maintenance, Shunde Museum was reopened since March 9th. Taking on a new look, the museum now has a lot to offer - themed exhibitions, varied art pieces and updated facilities. Now, lets take a look.

Two brand-new exhibition halls

Two brand-new exhibition halls were added to the museum – “Shunde People, Shunde Stories” and “Cantonese Opera Art”.

"Shunde People, Shunde Stories" Exhibition Hall

Based on Shende’s historical records from more than 3000 years ago to 1949, the hall connects with audience with epic local stories and tales. Every scene, finely decorated, not only reflects glorious chapters from the past, but also allows visitors to travel through space and time.

"Cantonese Opera Art" Exhibition Hall

Themed on major cultural events in the river of history, the hall sends off the beautiful rhyme of Lingnan Area. In the hall, visitors can experience first-hand how a Cantonese opera is put together - costumes, stage, make-up and so on.

Apart from the two new halls, more facilities are also available. Now visitors can take visiting elevators and escalators for an easier visiting experience.

More light to show the charm of history

During the maintenance period, more lightings were installed in “Cantonese Opera Art” Exhibition Hall, where you can notice more interesting details in both simulation scenes and showcases. Here are some examples.

Tridacna (“砗磲”, a shell-like gem)

With more lights around it, you now see its pattern, which looks like traces of a wheel running over the road. That’s the reason why it was named in this way.

“Lamp-on-head” pottery figurines

Many people wonder where this person came from. Now that its beard is showing up, you can see that he is the Hu People! (The slightly upward mustache on his face is a signature of the Hu people back in the Han Dynasty.)

Dragon boat

I bet you can’t tell “dragon” on a dragon boat is male or female, right? You can now find the answer here. It is male, as shown on this piece with beards on its heads.

Shunde Museum welcomes everyone! Come here with a couple of friends and feel the history of Shunde.
