Recently, a pottery show themed on Chinese Zodiac caught everyone’s attention. To celebrate 2021, the Year of Ox, there were more than 60 pottery works presented on the spot. The exhibition was organized by Guangdong Cultural Relics and Art Research Association, Foshan Arts and Crafts Industry Association, Foshan Han and Tang Art Museum, and sponsored by Jingguan Art Museum.
Overview of Ox-inspired Pieces on the Show
The exhibition included more than 60 pottery works from various pottery artists, mainly inspired by the Chinese Zodiac of Ox. These fine art pieces have high aesthetic value. Compared to usual gifts, they have more value for collection as they showcase the masters’ passion for pottery art and serve as an important carrier of Foshan’s ceramic art.
Strong bulls with muscles, adorable and lively cute bulls, hardworking buffaloes... The items on site are diverse in style, including works using traditional Shiwan pottery styles, as well as works combining traditional crafts and modern techniques. According to Huang Yaoquan, the curator of Jingguan Art Museum, more than 30 country-level, province-level and city-level pottery masters in Shiwan has contributed their arts to the exhibition.
“By putting on the show, we aim to allow citizens to get close to Shiwan pottery and form a better understanding of such art.” He said that, in the future the exhibition will be introduced to Beijing, Shanghai and other places, hoping that people around the whole country can learn about the charm of Foshan pottery.
