Accompanied by the sound of violin, piano, and sheng, a Chinese reed pipe wind instrument, a concert highlighting intangible cultural heritages was held on the evening of December 4th at the Liangyuan Garden in Foshan, one of the four iconic Lingnan gardens in Guangdong. Officials and their families from the Consulates General of Germany, Japan, France, Spain, Turkey, and Angola in Guangzhou, as well as representatives from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce and the Sino-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the event.

The concert featuring a combination of Chinese and Western styles added beauty and appeal to Liangyuan’s night. Performers from the Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe served up a classic duet called “Perfect Conjugal Bliss”. The appearance of the two performers in red costumes aroused the excitement of all guests. Then a band, Guangzhou Soul Project, provided the audience with three excellent jazz music performances “Red Clay”, “Fever”, and “Street Life”. Martin Fleischer, the Consul General of Germany in Guangzhou, played bass on the scene, bringing the atmosphere to a rousing climax.

Martin Fleischer has visited Foshan many times. He thinks Foshan is an open city that embraces foreign cultures with welcoming arms. “I like Foshan people for their open spirit," he said.

During the Gambiered Canton Gauze fashion show, models presented gauze fabric garments on the stage. These clothes combined traditional gauze manufacturing techniques with young fashion design, which not only continues the antique style of Gambiered Canton Gauze, but also displays a new Chinese style of clothing.

Rebecca Yang, chairman of Sky Culture, told the reporter that she plans to hold a Sino-German fashion week with Gong Yingchun, wife of the Consul General of Germany in Guangzhou, in Foshan next year. They will design clothes with Gambiered Canton Gauze from Shunde, Foshan, which allows this intangible cultural heritage to show its charm to the world.

Kurtulus Aykan, Consul General of Turkey in Guangzhou showed the reporter his ceramic works. He said that through participating in various activities, he found that Turkey and China, both Silk Road countries, have a lot in common. He hopes to develop and diversify the relationship and cultural exchange between Turkey and Guangdong during his tenure.

Jiang Yifu, director of the Foshan Foreign Affairs Bureau, said that Foshan is an open, inclusive and friendly city and the door of the city will always remain open to welcome guests from different countries. “Although the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 this year brings difficulties to our normal interaction, we are convinced that after all these challenges our exchange and cooperation will be further intensified,” he added.
