On October 19, the 4-day United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Hydrogen Industry Conference 2020 was held at the Qiaoshan Cultural Center in Nanhai. Representatives from embassies of various countries in China, leaders of relevant state ministries and committees, as well as experts from global organizations, scientific research institutions, hydrogen energy and fuel cell core enterprises gathered in Nanhai.

With the theme of “Green Hydrogen, Green Recovery”, it was the fourth international event related to “hydrogen energy” in Nanhai since 2017.

At the opening meeting of the UNDP Hydrogen Industry Conference 2020, 4 key hydrogen industry projects were officially put into production. Subsequently, a joint signing ceremony of hydrogen energy industry projects was held. 16 hydrogen energy industry projects covering various aspects of the hydrogen energy industry development will further improve Foshan hydrogen energy industry chain and promote the high-quality development of hydrogen energy industry.

The conference also held a joint launching ceremony of the 2023 World Hydrogen Energy Technology Conference, released the new Safety Guide for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles, and launched the Research on the Development Index of China’s Hydrogen Energy Industry.

Beate Trankmann, representative of UNDP in China, said at the conference, “Today’s forum brings me hope. It offers a better opportunity to recover from the epidemic, which combates environment change and creates millions of jobs. With more investments, I believe that China and other countries in the world can still achieve sustainable development.”

Zhu Wei, mayor of Foshan, said that speeding up the development of hydrogen energy industry is an important measure to promote the transformation and development of the manufacturing industry in Foshan. At present, Foshan has built 3 major hydrogen energy industry bases, gathered nearly 100 hydrogen energy enterprises, built 15 hydrogen filling stations, opened 28 hydrogen energy transportation lines, and put 1,400 fuel cell vehicles into operation. After the UNDP Hydrogen Industry Conference held in October last year, Foshan and Wuhan University of Technology has set up Xianhu Laboratory to introduce a number of major industrial projects and launch China’s first commercial hydrogen energy tram demonstration line.

In the next few days, the conference will hold 6 theme forums to conduct in-depth discussions on fuel cell technology, hydrogen energy technology and applications, policy standards, hydrogen safety, and hydrogen energy cooperation among China, Japan and South Korea. At the same time, a number of academicians and domestic and overseas leading enterprises will be invited to deliver keynote speeches to build a platform for in-depth communications of the hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry at home and abroad, and promote industrial cooperation and technological progress.
