On August 12th, Guangzhou Nansha Port Railway Cable-stayed Bridge, a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area infrastructure key project joined the final sections, marking the closure of the bridge located in the crossing area of Foshan and Jiangmen in Guangdong with a total length of 1,117.5 meters.

It is reported that in the history of double-track freight railway construction in the world at present, the Guangzhou Nansha Port Railway Cable-stayed Bridge has the largest span among bridges of the same structure with two bridge towers of 208 meters and 200 meters respectively, which can withstand a level-12 typhoon or a magnitude-9 earthquake.

Nansha Port Railway, a significant part of freight channels in west Pearl River Delta, runs through Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Foshan and Guangzhou with its main line of about 88 kilometers and a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour. A viaduct of 9 kilometers was built in Jun’an Town, Foshan, which is also the first railway construction project in Jun’an.

The completion of the railway will help to extend the hinterland area of the port with improved competitiveness, realize the combined transport of railway and waterway, reduce the logistics cost of enterprises along the line, and promote the development of Shunde’s manufacturing industry, which is of great significance for the construction of “Nansha Core” with Nansha Port as the core.

In addition, Nansha Port Railway will also be an important part of China’s construction of “the Belt and Road Initiative”. After being put into operation, the Nansha Port container trains can go directly to Europe.
