2020 Guangdong Youth Wrestling Championships kicked off in Foshan

The “2020 Guangdong ‘China Sports Lottery’ Youth Wrestling Championships”, held in Foshan from August 7th to 16th, was divided into Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling with a total of 45 gold medals. Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shantou, Foshan and other 14 cities in Guangdong, 650 athletes and 62 coaches and staffs participated in the competition. Affected by COVID-19, though not open to the public, the competition still attracted great attention from the levels with about 400,000 people followed the competition process through photos and live-stream platforms on the first competition day.
  
  
   
A total of 61 Foshan athletes took part in the competition. During the epidemic, members of Foshan team did not stop their practice and completed physical training at home in the form of uploading videos online. Qin Mingqiang, coach of Foshan team, said, “Since April, we carried out training focusing on physical ability, basic skills and power.”
  
   
Foshan has a great foundation of wrestling. Since Foshan wrestling team was founded in 1997, it has cultivated lots of excellent athletes such as Li Hui for Guangdong and China. 9 years after 2011, Foshan held this provincial wrestling competition again. Foshan will strictly follow the standards and demands of competition to support the work, including venues and equipment, competition organization and epidemic prevention and control.
  
   
The competition can further improve the technical level of wrestling in Foshan, promote the popularization of wrestling in Foshan, discover more excellent wrestling reserve talents, promote the development of wrestling in Foshan, and help resume work and production in Foshan’s sports industry.
