In order to further facilitate the “1+5” series project construction of Cantonese cuisine chef in Foshan and promote the brand of “Lingnan flavor · Foshan taste”, Foshan Bureau of Commerce released the Application of Foshan Cantonese Cuisine (famous restaurants, famous dishes, and famous desserts) Brand Building Guidelines, which officially started the evaluation activity of Foshan Cantonese cuisine brand building.

On the morning of July 3rd, Foshan Bureau of Commerce held an accreditation press conference. Li Jingluan, deputy director of Foshan Bureau of Commerce, said that the declaration and selection of Cantonese cuisine this time is an effective measure to build Foshan as a world-famous “City of Cantonese Cuisine and Chef”, aiming to discover and show Foshan’s gourmet culture, dig out famous restaurants, dishes and desserts scattered over every corner of the city to build up a brand. In addition, gourmet helps to gather popularity, expand domestic demands, establish images and benefit citizens’ livelihood, thus facilitating steady development of Foshan catering industry under epidemic prevention and control.

The government department took the lead in organizing the selection of Cantonese cuisine brands for the first time.

Foshan, the main birthplace of one of the 8 traditional Chinese “Cantonese cuisine”, is rated as “Hometown of Chinese Chefs”, “City of Chinese Gourmet Food”, “City of Cantonese Cuisine and Gourmet Food”, “City of Gastronomy” and other reputations with rich gourmet resources.

“This is the first Cantonese cuisine brand evaluation activity led by government departments and will be held every 2 years.”, Li Jingluan said. Foshan cuisine has been recognized by all walks of life, but it hasn’t been branded in subdivided fields at the official level before. After the selection, in accordance with Foshan’s implementation of relevant supportive policies for the project construction of Cantonese cuisine chefs’ “1+5” series, the business entity winning the title of Foshan Famous Cantonese Cuisine Restaurant for the first time will be given an one-time reward of 200,000 yuan, and the business entity winning the tile of Foshan Famous Cantonese Dishes or Desserts for the first time will be given an one-time reward of 20,000 yuan for each famous dish or dessert.

The organization and application in the evaluation activity of Foshan famous Cantonese cuisine restaurants, dishes and desserts will follow the principles of government guidance, voluntary declaration and selection based on merit. The total score of the selection consists of three parts: written selection, public voting and on-site selection. In terms of scoring requirements, the selection of famous Cantonese cuisine restaurants mainly considers the aspects of legal operation, operating capacity, Cantonese specialty, brand building, etc.; the selection of famous Cantonese dishes and desserts conducts an all-round assessment based on food safety, production standards, nutritional values, inheritance and innovation, brand and other aspects. After the selection, experts will publicly announce the results and the title will be awarded according to relevant principles after approval.
