On the morning of June 30th, the launching ceremony of the 2020 Guangdong (Foshan) Poverty Alleviation Day activity was held in Foshan. 29 benevolent enterprises (individuals) donated their funds generously and raised 63.3 million yuan on site.

Among them, Country Garden Group donated 30 million yuan and Time China Holdings Co., Ltd. donated 12 million yuan. The raised funds will be used to help Zhanjiang and Yunfu in Guangdong, and Liangshan in Sichuan.

Over the past 10 years, Foshan has actively advocated benevolent enterprises, individuals and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese who enthusiastically support Foshan’s philanthropy to participate in poverty alleviation activities, and Foshan has raised 690 million yuan in total.

The event also reported the current situation of Foshans poverty alleviation work. In recent years, Foshan did well in in poverty alleviation with Liangshan, Zhanjiang and Yunfu, and has nearly completed the goal of getting rid of poverty.

As for the cooperation of poverty alleviation in Liangshan, Foshan has promoted 53 Guangdong enterprises to invest in Liangshan, with an actual investment of more than 4.3 billion yuan, assisting 4 out of 11 national poverty-stricken counties, 1772 poor villages and totally 801,000 poor people in Liangshan to get rid of poverty successfully.

In terms of the assistance to Zhanjiang and Yunfu, Foshan has built a total of 1,420 industrial projects for increasing income, forming a number of distinctive and large-scale industrial poverty alleviation projects; 254 poor villages from 12 counties in Zhanjiang and Yunfu supported by Foshan have all been out of poverty, and 79,000 relatively poor people have all been lifted out of poverty.

Yang Changqing, deputy director of the Foshan Municipal Agricultural Office and the Municipal Poverty Alleviation Office, said that it is still difficult to fulfill the current task of Foshan’s counterpart assistance in poverty alleviation. Among the 11 national poverty-stricken counties in Liangshan’s poverty alleviation cooperation, 7 counties, 300 villages and in total 178,000 people still remain poor. This year, it is even more necessary for all sectors of society to contribute in the crucial period to win the decisive battle of poverty alleviation.
