With only 100 days to go before the World Cup Final, July 18th witnessed the press conference held by the Orienteering Association of China to announce the latest progress of preparatory work and reveal the emblem and official website of the event.

 

Acknowledged by the International Orienteering Federation, the Orienteering World Cup is a world-class open orienteering event that reaches international level. The Orienteering World Cup 2019 has four rounds of competitions. Round 1 in June in Helsinki, Finland, round 2 in August in WOC, Norway, round 3 in September in Laufen, Switzerland, and the final will be in October in Nanhai, Foshan. By the time, some 300 world-renowned orienteering athletes from more than 30 countries and areas will gather in Xiqiao Mountain, CCTV Nanhai Movie and TV Town and Songtang Village to secure the highest honor in Middle Distance, Sprint and Sprint Relay.

 

 

For the time being, all the preliminary works progress in good order, with Feihong Pavilion being the event center.

To effectively convey the spirit of this world-class event, the Orienteering Association of China had set up awards for anyone who can bring up with a great idea. Finally, the chosen emblem of this attention-drawing event was designed by a professional group from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, showing athletes’ dauntless spirit for the event and the infinite opportunities for rural revitalization brought by the rejuvenation of historical trails in Guangdong province.

 

 

The emblem has several elements which include athletes, Lingnan cloud-like roof wall, contour of special terrain and compass, showing us a vivid image in which athletes run on the ancient lanes in Guangdong. The emblem uses mainly two colors, orange for enthusiasm and blue for the future. A glance at the emblem reveals that energetic young adults work towards the rural revitalization with both enthusiasm and wisdom following the example of rejuvenation of historical roads in Guangdong.

It’s also worth mentioning that, another orienteering event called Nanyue Ancient Lane Orienteering will be held in Nanhai district in the same time of the Orienteering World Cup 2019. Yang Hai, the deputy director of Guangdong Bureau of Sports, mentioned that these two eye-catching events will draw the world’s attention to Guangdong province. Spectators can learn the culture, customs and history of the ancient trails while watching athletes running across the ancient villages.
