The 5th International Wing Chun Competition (South China) was held in Nanhai

From August 25th to 26th, the 5th “Foshan Hi-tech Zone Cup” International Wing Chun Competition (South China) was held in Shishan Gymnasium, Nanhai. This year, the number of participants in the South China region reached a high record. A total of 1,934 athletes from 107 boxing halls in the Pearl River Delta region and Hong Kong and Macao competed in the competition and struggled for the finals in November, which showed the charm of Wing Chun.


     
The jury of this competition held in Nanhai was composed of senior masters of different Wing Chun branches in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. "The judging criteria this year mainly focuses on the three aspects of players, namely proficiency, accuracy and spirit." Guo Weizhan, head of the Wing Chun Federation said.
       
It is reported that more audition sessions will be held in the three domestic regions of Beijing, Southwest China and East China and foreign countries (Australia, Germany, France, USA, UK, Switzerland, etc.) from the end of August to September. More than 2,000 athletes who stand out from the competition will receive a final place in late November.
     
As the hometown of world-renowned Wing Chun master Ip Man, Foshan High-tech Zone has been committed to promoting Wing Chun culture and spirit. Since 2012, Foshan High-tech Zone has successfully held four International Wing Chun Competitions under the support of all parties. With increasingly rising participants, it has built a platform for the majority of Wing Chun fans to show themselves, learn from each other and communicate with each other. Wing Chun culture has already become the "gilded signboard" of the cultural history of Foshan Hi-tech Zone.
    
Since last year, the International Wing Chun Competition, which was scheduled to be held for every two years, has been changed to an annual one. Li Tao, the stationmaster of Shishan Cultural Station, said that this year, Foshan High-tech Zone continues to use "World Wing Chun Cultural Exchange Center" as the orientation to urge the internationalization of Wing Chun martial arts culture; it also plans to create the brand of Wing Chun Cultural Festival by launching a serious of activities such as competitions, cultural exchange conferences, concerts of Wing Chun so that Foshan can become world-famous as the “the city of Kung Fu.”
