In order to build innovative Foshan, Foshan Technology Innovation Conference was held on April 24. In recent years, related indexes of Foshan technology innovation have greatly increased: 2017 Foshan enterprises R&D institutions won “double champions” in Guangdong province; one of the five exterior design awards settles in Foshan; Midea Group is going to build the only provicnial technology innovation center in white household applicances industry. In April, 2018, Foshan is approved to construct national innovative city.

Mayor of Foshan Zhu Wei said that under joint effort, Foshan has greatly improved the capability of independent innovation, and technology innovation is increasing the impetus to support Foshan economic and social high-quality development.

Multiple technology innovation achivements rank high in Guangdong

The output and quality of technology innovation achivements are improved. In 2017, there are 18 technology awards above provincial level and 49 Chinese patent awards, creating the highest record and ranking thrid in Guangdong Province.

The construction of major innovation platforms makes new breakthroughs. In Feburary this year, Foshan announced that from 2018 to 2022, the city plans to build Foshan Advanced Manufacturing Science and Technology Guangdong Lab in 5 years with 5.5 billion yuan, invested by municipality and district finance for 1 billion yuan every year.

Deputy director of the lab Song Zhiyi introduced that the lab will be named as “Jihua Lab”, which is located by Wenhan Lake, Sanshan New City, Nanhai District. It covers an area of about 67 hectares. This area is the core region of Foshan high-end innovation cluster of Chancheng, Nanhai and Shunde and also an important part of Foshan “First Ring Innovation Circle”. It is estimated that till the middle of 2020, there will be 9 labs including robot and advanced control, bio-manufacturing, etc.

Foshan grasps 7 key aspects of work to “make up deficiencies”

For technology innovation work in the future, the conference deployed seven key aspects of work, among which talent problem is especially emphasized. On one hand, increase financial input and put forward preferential policies to attract more talents. On the other hand, encourage enterprises to enhance treatment of high-tech workers so as to motivate high-tech talents.
