Recently, Foshan Bureau of Natural Resources (Shunde Branch) has announced a design plan for Shunde Sightseeing Tower, which in a way coincides with the iconic Canton Tower in Guangzhou. The plan designated that the tower should be more than 300 meters in height, yet should not cover an area of more than 40,000 square meters. Geographically, the tower stands close to OCT Harbor Plus, which is seen as good location for a trip.

Overall planning: fusing water and sky sceneries

According to the plan, the landmark will be built along with a north-to-south axis. A towering building from its north and a cultural facility from its south will be presented in symmetry, as Chinese people always do with architecture. On the east there comes a water theater that connects seamlessly to the water. When finished, the tower will soon become an icon in Foshan and constitute a gorgeous view fusing crystal sky, tall buildings and clear water all together.

Overall style: A "phoenix" rising up to the sun

Aesthetically, the tower looks like a phoenix spreading its golden wings, which embodies Shunde’s international image as the "Phoenix City". The sightseeing tower appears to be its tail. As "the phoenix" is getting ready to fly, it raised up its head, shaking wings and soared to a far distance.

Building facade: A "phoenix" glowing all over

The building facade will adapt traditional Foshan ceramics, which looks like dazzling feathers of a phoenix, and keep to traditional Foshan architectural skills. The landmark, along with the other two buildings along the axis, will be built with metal materials, making it possible to look shiny and bright in Shunde all day all night.

Functional division: six “flower petals” pointing to a heart

With the capacity to stage performing arts, the landmark has three on-the-ground platforms. The art gallery is like three stretched white orchid petals that stretches to the sky. What a full-blown architectural division.

Vertical layout: shape of Chinese character "品"

According to this design, the grand theater and the concert hall are arranged on the ground floor, combining with water and ground. The art gallery is laid out on the upper floor, as inspired by the view - "art gallery in the sky". Below the gallery there will be the concert hall and the grand theater, which vertically constitute a shape of Chinese character "品".

Cultural Space: a treasury of arts

The Cultural Communication Center included in the project is guaranteed by international scale and standards - 1,200 concert halls, 800 multifunctional theaters, 500 experimental theaters, art galleries and other functions. Audiences are allowed to enjoy world-class visuals, sound effects and performing arts.

Goals for the design

Shunde Cultural Communication Center is positioned as a new landmark that leads the comprehensive cultural media in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. When completed, a large number of world-class cultural performances and exhibitions can be staged right here. Working together with OCT Harbor Plus, Shunfeng Mountain, Pop Music Circle, the new landmark can help build a culture-based business circle, enriching local people’s lives and scaling up Shundes international influence.
