Urban areas are the powerhouses of a city’s high-quality development. CCID, an IT information service platform, evaluated the growth of 906 districts (except municipalities directly under the central government, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) in China from five indicators – economic strength, development potential, pillar industries, regional comprehensive strength and sharing development.

The report released on August 17 reveals that 8 districts on the top ten are in Guangdong. Notably, some districts in Foshan are taking the lead. For instance, Shunde district ranks 6th, Nanhai district 12th and Chancheng district 40th.

Shunde, the top district in Foshan on the CCID ranking, is strong in manufacturing industry and has generated an industrial output of nearly 900 billion yuan on the 806-square-kilometer land. Its GDP surged to 359.362 billion yuan in 2020, ranking the first on the top 100 national districts list for 9 years in a row for its high-quality development and overall strength.

It can be seen that manufacturing industry is the powerful driver for Shunde’s economic growth. Since 2018, Shunde has been working to upgrade village-level industrial park and so far, over 73.3 square kilometers have been done. Statistically, last year, the value-added advanced manufacturing in Shunde increased by 8.6 percent, accounting for 69.2 percent of that of industries above designated size.

Shunde now has given priority to building premium business environment with various measures, including providing preferential tax policies, improving living environment and building more high-standard infrastructure.
